Eighteenth
Last year this day, everything felt so different. I was actually looking forward to my birthday. Looking forward to school, to open house, to all my friends (NJ and MG), all the presents and so on. I knew I was going to have a happy day ahead. This year, I know I would be getting all those things but somehow, it just doesn’t matter anymore.
When we were supposed to go out on a birthday date last year, I felt that it was a rare opportunity to see all my friends together; an opportunity I couldn’t lose. You could wait because you would always be there anyway. This year, I realize how very wrong I was. You’re probably the only one I want to be with when I turn 18; finally legal, an adult, but I know that’s probably impossible now.
If I could have one last chance, my birthday wish would be for you to be by my side. I promise to never take you for granted.
